Performing Arts Conservatory Carmel (PACC) was erected in the summer of 1999 by John Farmanesh-Bocca as an occupational / vocational performance program for aspiring theatre artists between the ages of 15 - 21 years of age. The curriculum was based on the works of Jerzy Grotowski, Steve Wangh, Sanford Meisner, Wendell Beavers, Tadashi Suzuki, Joseph Chaikin, and the works of other Master Teachers of the Experimental Theatre Wing at New York University. Over time specific physical theatre approaches developed by PACC became a vocabulary unique to the company. Many of these techniques are still employed by the former Company Members and John in his work at both NYU and The Juilliard School.
PACC's inaugural production of 'Hamlet' was performed after the first semester of training in the summer of 1999 at the Circle Theatre of Pacific Repertory Theatre in Carmel California. The final semester of PACC officially took place in February of 2oo3.
In all there were 38 graduates of the Conservatory with over 100 total participants including the Carmel based program as well as the program's extensions and outreach. Many of the school's graduates went onto study at such prestigious training programs as Harvard's American Repertory Theatre, New York University, Oxford, Cornish, Central School of London, Moscow Arts Theatre, Sarah Lawrence, Naropa University and The Juilliard School.

Thank you to the many students that allowed me to guide them in their beginning footsteps in the theatre. For every ounce I taught I was also learning, which is how I knew it was all going very well. I am so fortunate to have had the many experiences that these extraordinary and unique human beings have given me. They all had a hand in shaping the director and performer I am today. For that I am grateful.
I hope the work has served you over time, and no matter where you are today, or in whatever profession, that it continues to accumulate as life and the new influences come.
I am confident that the experiences had at PACC prepared you to have thoughtful conversations about theatre and life with anyone in the world. Whether it be, passing on information and experience to a younger person, debating with a colleague, or gleaning the wisdom of an experienced journeyman of the arts. My hope is that you are using that gift today.
Best Wishes,
John
P.S. I think Steve Wangh said it best when he looked at all of us in the summer of 2oo2 and said, "I see a lot of wonderful future parents in this room."
